Zhou et al. provide evidence for the prevalence of somatic copy number alterations in fibroblasts, immune cells, and endothelial cells in both colorectal cancer and normal tissues. The proportions of aneuploid fibroblasts in tumors are much higher than those in normal tissues, with strong clonal expansion of fibroblasts that gain a copy of chromosome 7.
